“What’s the plan, Saylor?” Logan asked.

“He said to go in the front door.”

“What, and we just do what he says?” Micah sputtered.

“Unless you have any other ideas.”

“I’m always game for plain ol’ setting it on fire.” Micah shrugged.

“Arson.” I winked at her. “Nice.”

Logan reclaimed the conversation. “Blueprints showed double doors into an open foyer, leading into a wider open room. Left leads to meeting rooms, right had large walls with a mix of open spaces where they used to have displays. No telling what’s left. Been abandoned after the last remodel. That we know.”

“We take the sides.” I swayed my head, the steely cold air now nibbling at the tip of my nose, making it runny and ignorant. “Micah and I take the left, you three to the right, and we shake things up. Make our way to that back room we were heading to earlier.”

“It’s a start. At least we have the darkness on our side,” Logan sighed, and handed me my helmet. “And keep your helmet on. We have to be able to communicate.”

Accepting the helmet, I shoved Bobby K on my soggy head. The five of us crossed the open space in front of the abandoned building. Concrete had long ago been torn up by weeds and weather. Stars blinked overhead, as if signaling some unheeded warning.

The night burrowed unburdened around us as we traversed the inimical porch. As Logan grabbed the door handle, he glanced around to us. We nodded, one unit, ready to duck and cover. Boots slipped inside, silent as the shady side of the moon, into the obscured interior.

Behind us, with the slightest of breaths, the door slid shut.

Buzzing chirped overhead. We all ducked. Lights flicked on. Freezing in our places, light violin music began to play around us from invisible speakers.

“Welcome!” A lady’s warm voice greeted us. “Thank you for vising Heart Mountain Historical Museum! Please take a seat in the theater. Our next showing begins in three minutes.”

Logan flipped up his HUD, curious for my opinion on the matter.

Instead, he saw only Micah beside him, returning his blank stare.
